Weebly, Wix, Audacity, Oh My!

Hello again!

This week will be about Wix and Weebly. These sites are for anyone without a computer background to start a website. These website builders are quick, simple, and easy to use.

My favorite so far was Weebly and that was because I think it is user friendly, while Wix is great for creativity purposes. It was confusing on my part to figure out Wix’s options. The layout and choices for Wix was a lot more diverse than Weebly. I noticed that Weebly’s choices were lacking in the creative side, compared to Wix.

Also, even though I was still struggling with Weebly, I still consider it the easiest. I only say struggle because I had found an easier way to edit and finally understood what the tabs meant but only at the end of the class. By the time I had realize my mistake of wasting time, I had to move on to Wix. So I think that if I had known the shortcuts at the beginning, my Weebly experience would look better.
Here is the links to my Wix and my Weebly

Also, here are some pros and cons about Wix. Since my hour trail with Wix is not enough to describe to describe to y’all, so this video should suffice.

Let’s change topics! Now for my websites, I was thinking about adding a podcast since one of our assignments in Comm 350 is a podcast. I figure might as well use it to spice up my website. This week, we dabbled a little bit with the program Audacity. I thought it was funny since it reminded me of Audible, another website that has a play on the word audio. While I learned the simple effects in class, I did not get to learn how to auto tune my voice. This video explains how to make your voice sound like T-Pain.

Since everything seems to be auto tuned now, I feel like this could add character to my group’s podcast. Also I feel like auto tune makes anyone sound like a singer.
Also, if y’all do not know what Audacity is, click on it.

Download it! It has options for a Mac and a PC. Also, do not ask me which one you should download. I went with the biggest size, but that is just me.

FIRST BLOG POST

Oh hello there!

Welcome to this blog, one of the many within the sea of internet. My name is Thu, pronounced as the number two, to, too. I think you get my point. While other blogs are meant to be a platform for otherwise silent voices, this blog is brought to you by the Communication department at Western Washington University. More specifically, Communication 350: emerging technology.
Obviously, this is an assignment. I know, sorry to my thousands and thousands of fans out there reading this.

For this blog entry, I have to talk about blogging, personal branding and Photoshop. I personally have blogged a few times in the past, both recreationally and for scholarly reasons. Just recently, I’ve been exposed to the idea of personal branding and how much it is emphasized for American students. Also, it seems like the industry is flooded with those trying to compete who has the better brand.

Now, I personally have no idea how to brand myself, but Forbes  did an amazing job summarizing how to successfully do it in seven steps. I honestly agree with everything except the website domain. With the multiple platforms available, I am not sure if a personal website will be needed. However, I may be just speaking from a cheap standpoint, and do not really want to invest the time and money in securing a personal domain.

Here is a video to help your personal branding if the Forbes list was not helpful enough:

For Photoshop, I’ve a little experience here and there, mainly in high school during my sophomore year. However, we never edited things too crazy since we were the yearbook committee. I had more experience with InDesign, but Photoshop always interested me. Recently, we have been dabbling with the program in class. I did not get to watch a video, but I wanted to try the miniature effect. Maybe you can try it instead!

That is a bit of a summary of what we did in Communications 350 so far! Here is a video of Lin-Manual Miranda singing Hamilton at the White House. A certain professor turned me to the dark side, back to musical theatre.
